Renting with KJWR Inc.

With the support from Canadian flute community, KJWR Inc. Rentals launched in 2021.

The KJWR inc. rental program was created as a response to flute teachers who reached out to Kim / KJWR to fill a unique need: to provide high quality, meticulously adjusted student and “step up” flutes for their private/group lesson students that also allowed the students the ability to transfer some of their rent into purchasing an intermediate or handmade flute when they were ready.

This isn’t the traditional rental model… which makes KJWR Inc. one-of-a-kind.

About the KJWR Inc. Rental Program:

As a small business responding to teacher and player requests, the truth is that KJWR Inc. may not be the best fit for all players wanting to rent student level instruments – and that’s ok!

KJWR Inc. requires player and teacher support to keep this program viable. This means working with individuals/families that are motivated to care for their rental. KJWR Inc. rental flutes aren’t intended to double as: swords, batons, law darts, and intentional tests of gravity etc. This is partially said in jest, but as a small business, the KJWR rental program cannot financially support instruments being seriously damaged due to neglect or willful mis-use the way large chain stores can. If instruments start coming back damaged, the KJWR Inc. rental program will cease to be viable.

Who benefits from the KJWR Inc. Rental System:

Students of all levels who have a private instructor (or are adults returning to playing) and want to rent high quality, extremely good condition flutes set up by a professional flute technician.
Individuals/families looking for additional guidance and support than is typically available. This includes access to additional customized information on care, preventative maintenance, and instrument related budgeting/financial planning recommendations from the very beginning.
Players that are still benefiting from a student level instrument, but know they will want to transition to an intermediate or handmade flute in the next 1-3 years.

KJWR inc. Rental Requirements:

Beginning players (regardless of age) must have a private teacher (this is to help make sure that players are receiving weekly feedback and assistance with instrument assembly/disassembly and general care.). Please note: KJWR will connect with the teacher prior to providing a rental contract to the player/player’s family.
A valid bank/credit union credit card must be kept on file for the duration of the rental. (This doesn’t have to be the payment method used for the rental).
For legal reasons all rental contracts must be completed by an adult over the age of 19.
Instruments are required to be maintained exclusively by KJWR Inc.
Those causing excessive damage (see the section on swords & lawn darts) to instruments will be offered the ability to purchase their rental, but will be unable to continue renting other instruments from KJWR. A repair surcharge will apply in cases of excessive damage.
For any non-local rentals, shipping charges are paid by the renter. KJWR Inc. uses Purolator for shipping.

About Low Flute Rentals...

KJWR Inc. has a small number of alto and bass flutes available for rental.

Maintaining a low flute rental fleet is expensive - there's really no other way to say it.

In North America low flutes rentals and very rare, and are usually charged as daily rental rates (typically $50.00 - 80.00 USD per day).

KJWR Inc. has elected to rent based on weekly rates, with minimums, but encourages players to contemplate if purchasing the instrument may be a better option.
