Buying a new instrument is often an overwhelming process!
As a player there are often questions, concerns that factor into finding the perfect flute. This is especially true for younger players (and their families), and for players of any age preparing to make the move from "student" or "step up" to a handmade instrument.
At KJWR, the process starts by getting to know a bit about the players needs, wants, hopes, dreams/wish list items and of course, their budget. With this information, we work together to find a few different makes and models that are a good potential match. This can be done via phone, video chat, email, or in the case of those local to Victoria, in person by appointment.
Once a few potential instrument candidates have been selected, it's time to start trying instruments!
Please note that because each instrument is thoroughly inspected and play tested prior to shipping that typical turn-around times for in stock trials (2-3 instruments) is 5-7days. If items are not in stock, you will be contacted with an anticipated timeline. To provide the level of care KJWR clients deserve, 24 hour turn-arounds are not possible.
PLEASE DO REMOVE ALL RINGS AND JEWELRY (including including facial and tongue piercings) that could contact the instrument. These can and do often scratch/damage the instruments.
DO NOT LEAVE INSTRUMENTS UNATTENDED, or place them on any surfaces which could damage or scratch the instrument
PLEASE DO USE THE TRIAL "ROD, SWAP & CLOTH KIT" provided to swab out the instrument and wipe off any fingerprints. PLEASE DO NOT use the sealed rod and cloths provided in the instrument trial instrument unless you are purchasing that instrument.
Any used or missing rods, cloths, kits, accessories etc. will be billed to the credit card on file.

Question:
How many instruments are allowed on trial at one time?
Answer:
Typically up to 1- 3 instruments are sent out on trial at one time. If you are local to Victoria BC (or are visiting and will be remaining local during the trial period), this can sometimes be extended slightly if it has been set up in advance.
Question:
How long does it take to prep a trial to be shipped to me?
Answer:
While this depends on a few factors (including how many instruments) typically in stock flutes are able to be shipping within 5 business days. Completed paperwork must be received prior to shipping.
Question:
Is shipping time counted in the trial period?
Answer:
No. Your trial time begins from the time you physically receive the instrument(s), and ends when the instrument(s) is/are returned to KJWR in person (or received by the shipping company).
Question:
How much does it cost to ship me trial flutes?
Answer:
Shipping is a flat rate of $30.00 per instrument. This rate is subsidized by KJWR to help keep costs accessible. If an instrument is purchased from that trial, the shipping fee is waived.
Question:
What paperwork is required for trials?
Answer:
KJWR has a one page trial form that must be completed for each instrument sent on trial. I contains basic information including name, address etc. as well as listing the exact instrument that is on trial.
A valid bank-issued credit card is required for all trials.
If you do not have a credit card, the instrument(s) must be paid for in full prior to shipping, and the amount (minus service fees) would be returned if the instrument(s) are not kept.
Question:
How much of a deposit is typically required?
Answer:
Typically 10% (rounded) of the instrument cost is taken as a deposit. This policy is subject to change without notice, and the amount listed on the trial paperwork overrides any other stated or implied pricing.
