Annual Maintenance / COAs

What is Annual Maintenance (also called a COA - or "Clean, Oil & Adjust")?

Annual Maintenance helps keep your instrument in optimum playing condition and helps prevent wear and tear of the mechanism. It also provides the technician an opportunity to carefully assess the body, pads and mechanism for potential issues which can't be seen without completely disassembling the instrument.  This allows proactive replacement of worn key corks (silencers),  pads etc. before they start causing issues.

An Annual Maintenance / COA typically involves:

  • The complete disassembly of the instrument, including disassembly of the key mechanism itself.
  • The body is cleaned (oiled if needed).
  • The mechanism is hand cleaned and new oil applied to the mechanism.
  • Vents (body and keys) are cleaned to make sure they are free of debris.
  • All pads, key corks and silencing materials are assessed for wear and replaced if needed.*
  • The entire instrument is regulated and play tested.

*Replacement of pads, tenon & bocal corks, and crack repair are done at an additional charge.

**Instruments which have not had an Annual Maintenance /COA in 3 years or more will often require an additional 1-2 hours labour and possibly a few pads. Please keep this in mind when reading the prices listed below.
